Product Spotlight & Release News

In October, Xinet® announced the release of WebNative® Suite 16.0 and Video 3.0 for WebNative Suite. All new releases are available to AXIs, developers, and all customers enrolled in the Xinet Maintenance Program. These products feature updated and augmented tools, simplified interface and more ways to expedite your workflow.

WebNative Suite 16.0
Version 16.0 of Xinet WebNative Suite offers a fully integrated file server and print production engine, server-based DAM solution with an SQL database, and security and Web-hosting software—all in one unified product. This new release is composed of many of the features previously available in our core products—FullPress®, WebNative, WebNative Venture and WebNative Portal, plus many new features that are sure to enhance productivity for administrators and users alike.

Some of the most significant features of WebNative Suite include:

  • A single web-based graphical user interface (GUI) and improved tools for administrators, such as reporting of missing indexes in the database, and a viewable status of all WebNative Suite processes.
  • Asset Browser, the mini Web browser that allows users to search for and place assets directly to InDesign documents
  • Annotations simplifies and speeds the review process by giving users the ability to mark up documents using text, lines and stamps—for any supported asset, including video files.

Version 16.0 also offers improvements such as a unique, pre-configured PDF image replacement print queue to simplify PDF IR workflows, an upgraded database to my SQL 5.1 to improve full-text index creation for faster, more efficient database searching, global WebNative volumes that can be made available to all existing and future WebNative Suite users, ICC profiles for Web previews, customizable icons for the Uploader, automated actions that can be triggered from Adobe applications, and more.

Administrators maximize efficiency with the new interface, simplified for both aesthetics and usability. Users gain flexibility with feature enhancements and new tools that continue to expedite workflow and save time.

Video 3.0 for WebNative Suite

Video for WebNative Suite provides access to video files from a secure, central location and enables users around the globe to search for, view, approve, and distribute these assets from any Web browser. Video elements for an advertising campaign can be placed alongside print, packaging and point-of-sale components to provide clients with efficient, one-stop brand review from your Web site.

This significant upgrade to version 3.0 is enhanced with better scene detection and new tools that allow users to annotate videos for faster approvals, stream them from multiple devices, create in-house video reels from existing elements, and more. Your team won't need additional training, and they won't need any experience in video production to use the new features.

Ask the Expert

Ask the Expert
Q.
Is there an easy way to tell how many previews my WebNative server is currently processing, or about to process?

A. There certainly is with WebNative Suite 16.0! As an administrator, simply navigate to the "Logging" tab, then select "Preview Generation." There you will see a table with one row for each type of preview the server makes: FPO/Web Previews, QuarkXPress &Adobe InDesign Documents, PDFs, movies, and Microsoft Office docs. It also has a row for extracting XMP metadata from Adobe files. These are called "Request Queues." The three columns to the right show:

  • the number of files currently being processed
  • the number waiting to be processed as soon as possible
  • the number "on hold" until a later time before processing occurs

Thus, one could easily identify that the server is currently busy, for example, if it is making seven FPO and Web previews, with 200 additional files in the "wait" queue. Or there might be 50 video files waiting to be processed for previews, with two on "hold."

For more details on the files in a queue, you can click on the document icon or the "Details" tab, where you will find a list of all the files in each Request Queue. Clicking on the name of a file allows an administrator to view the preview and metadata of the file through WebNative. You can even remove individual files from the FPO/WEB request queue with the trash can icon.

Logs of all previews made are kept in the "FPO/WEB History" and "Syncing History" tabs, so that even if you have no need to witness all the preview-generating excitement, you'll have a chance to review the action later.

Customer Spotlight

Highlighted in this issue are an American advertising agency, Grey New York, and a Japanese magazine publisher, Hachette Fujingaho. Both have added automation to their workflow and simplified how they manage digital assets using the Xinet WebNative solution.

Grey New YorkGrey New York, the flagship advertising agency of Grey Worldwide, retains an extensive client roster including many of the world’s best-known brands like Procter & Gamble, GlaxoSmithKline, Canon, 3M, and Eli Lilly. The agency recognized that they needed a robust digital asset management (DAM) system such as WebNative to transfer large files more quickly and refine the maintenance and management of their entire asset library.

Phil Henry, technical manager of Grey New York says, “In an agency, it’s very important to move large files quickly and efficiently, share them with other people in the industry and outside the agency, and to have a very sophisticated archiving system where you can still see your work after it’s been archived. We’ve been using the WebNative system for a number of years and it’s entwined in many areas of the agency. We use the WebNative system every day and just can’t live without it.”

Hachette FujingahoHachette Fujingaho, a subsidiary of Lagardère Active in Japan, is one of the leading magazine publishers in Japan, most notably in the upscale magazine segment, housing well-known brands including ELLE, Fujingaho, 25ans and MEN’S CLUB. Mr. Fuyuki Ban, general manager of the production department, initially sought a simple storage solution to automate and streamline the production process. After learning more about the benefits of digital asset management in general and the Xinet system in particular he realized how valuable a robust digital asset management system would be to their magazine production process.

“With the Xinet solution, we have definitely seen less overtime. By using WebNative, Hachette Fujingaho has improved the efficiency of our production process and we have really seen a return on investment,” said Mr. Ban. “I look forward to learning and utilizing more of the different functionalities within Xinet WebNative.”
