In this one-day course, attendees are provided with real world experience in troubleshooting common problems that can occur on Xinet servers.
At the beginning of the class, attendees are given a quick guide to the troubleshooting tools, which are built into FullPress and WebNative Venture. Attendees are taught to analyze the Xinet product log files, work with repair and debugging commands, and employ a range of other techniques for locating the primary causes of common server problems and resolving them.
For the remainder of the day, various problems are simulated on each person’s individual server. A range of typical site administration and configuration issues is represented: file-sharing, client bugs, interactions with third-party software, OPI replacement, printer access, common user mistakes, etc.
The goal of this course is to provide system administrators and others involved in Xinet server management with a hands-on, focused environment in which they can rapidly improve their problem-solving skills on their own. However, technical assistance is provided when necessary. This is a self-paced class, so some attendees may get through more of the material than others. A course manual that details common problems and solutions is provided for attendees to take home.
As this class puts the ideas discussed in the Advanced Administration course into practice, we recommend that attendees take the Advanced Administration Class prior to the Advanced Troubleshooting Class. There is a maximum of eight attendees per class. Familiarity with the Unix command line is a must. Please contact Xinet if you’d like to discuss how well this class suits your level of Unix or Xinet product administration knowledge.
