PDF Image Replacement — Remote users of Xinet® WebNative® can drag and drop images from Safari and Firefox to layout applications such as Adobe InDesign CS, CS2, CS3, and QuarkXPress 6.5, 7.1 on a Macintosh.

How Does it Work — Featuring a low-resolution workflow using PDFs
exported from the layout application, replacement of images inside the PDF is performed by Xinet FullPress® directly on the PDF files without conversion to PostScript. The resulting PDF contains high resolution images and retains all characteristics of the original PDF. This simple solution preserves transparency applied to images placed in layout applications. Internal users can simply export to a published hotfolder on their desktop or use “WebNative PDF Upload” to export PDF and add to Uploader in one step.

Drag and drop images from the browser to your chosen layout

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE XINET WEBNATIVE SUITE

Zebra

Xinet is dedicated to helping customers get the most out of their WebNative Suite installation. To meet the needs of our customers, we offer live engineering support 18 hours every business day, online access to TechNotes and volumes of development, administrative, and user documentation.

Below, we have complied a list of the most common questions regarding the Xinet WebNative Suite. If you have any questions to submit regarding the WebNative Suite, please send them to marketing@xinet.com. We will be sure to have it answered in our next issue of Xing.

Can I virus check assets prior to delivery to my production/asset server?
Yes. Xinet WebNative Portal can use any third-party virus-checking application to check assets it receives. The virus-checking software quarantines problematic uploaded files, ensuring that they will not be passed on to the production/asset
management server.

I want to dedicate a WebNative Portal server to my development team. Do I need an additional license?
No. The WebNative Portal license allows an unlimited number of WebNative Portal machines to communicate with one WebNative production server. You only need one WebNative Portal license.

Can I have a WebNative Portal machine at my location and another at my client’s location under the same license?
Yes. The WebNative Portal license allows an unlimited number of WebNative Portal servers to communicate with one WebNative production server.

When using multiple servers, do I have to ensure my folder structure, metadata, and privileges match on all the sites for each user?
No. Each site can have its own workflow and unique setup. WebNative Portal can still search across all the sites.

Why is it easier to customize WebNative Portal than WebNative?
WebNative Portal templates can be edited using WYSIWYG applications such as Dreamweaver or GoLive--enabling a web designer without strong programming skills to make effective, intuitive websites.

  • The PHP engine enables easier development and customization.
  • Open plug-in architecture makes it possible for you to add custom features.
  • Asset Timer, Asset Fulfillment Request and Online Approval ship with the product.
  • Session-based user management enhances security.

AVON JAPAN SPEEDS CATALOG PRODUCTION WITH XINET WEBNATIVE VENTURE

    WPS
Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress group is responsible for the in-house production work for all of its print media, including the catalogs. The company has a unique system due to its relationship with Dainihon Printing —

Dainihon Printing’s pre-press team works directly with Avon Japan to do the retouching work. In order to keep pace with the demands of production and facilitate the workflow between the Dainihon Printing team and Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress Group, Avon Japan turned to Xinet WebNative to help streamline production.

“One of the key benefits of the Xinet solution is that we were able to better share our data with Dainihon Printing, but also maintain control of those assets,” said Mr. Kiyotaka Okamura, Manager of Avon Japan’s Digital Publishing and Prepress group.

Hot Dam! Late Breaking News from the Xinet Users Group

XUG The Xinet Users Group conducted a survey in January 2008 to determine the most important topics XUG could cover in webinars and telephone conferences. The results show that the topic with the highest priority was “What Are the Most Important New Features for Xinet to Develop?” Others topics high on the scale were metadata workflow; implementing WebNative Portal; real-life applications of video support; and best practices for searching inside documents and PDFs. XUG also received excellent write-in suggestions and will amalgamate these into our future event schedule. Three survey prize winners, each of whom received an Amazon gift certificate worth US$25, were chosen: Suzanne Kelly, Fidelity Investments, Boston, USA; Sean Proctor, Telescope Studios, Leeds, UK; and Ken Cruickshanks, Identica Branding & Design, Toronto, Canada.

XUG has announced a series of informal telephone discussions beginning in early March 2008. The sessions will be held at 11 AM US Eastern time, allowing users in many time zones to participate. More sessions will be scheduled, including some at hours convenient for Asia and Australia. Details are on the XUG website at http://www.xinetusersgroup.org. The sessions will be limited to 12 users allowing for open discussions of current concerns, trends, and best practices. XUG is also considering the last week in March to hold its first webinar based on the results of the user survey. Check the XUG website for details.
